Carpenters Arms 2 v 2 Rose & Thistle - Division 2

Hey What’s That in the Black Kit...... ITS A REF !

Whey Hey.. a ref for this game, fantastic.

Formation set out as 451, which with hindsight was a bad choice! Still lots of injuries, which now includes Allery. So with three of the 4 strikers out injured Rik Scales was up front on his own. The Marsden / Leach combination still in tact Mr Gray making his way over to left back and Gadsen left mid. Toni back in goal As Greg Pickett is away for 4 weeks.

1st Half - The first half formation had a lot to do with Thistle being blunt up front, on such a small pitch and against such opposition a 442 would have been the best start. Not much can be said about this half, we created some chances, they had two chances and put one of those away. Marsden was having a storming game, in fact really the whole of the back 4 played well, George having his best game yet at Right Back. But at half time the score was a disappointing 1-0 to Carpenters Arms. We just weren’t out of the blocks like last week.

2nd Half - One sub at half time, Marshall off Harris on. A change in formation pushed Holman up front with Scales and Harris keeping a tight grip in the centre.

In the second half Thistle came straight out of the blocks, Marsden a man possessed. With two upfront we created chance after chance, Holman very unlucky not to get at least two goals and some last ditch defending saw the game still at 1-0. However worse was to come as a single attack found the ball in the Thistle net again and now it was 2-0. Now not a team to give up we pushed forward and with some great tackling from Holman, he found himself some space on the right to deliver a nice cross into the box, Awesome was on hand to drive the ball over the keeper and get Thistle back in it 2-1. Carpenters Arms retreated as Thistle pushed for the second. Again the oppositions goal was charmed as it just wouldn’t go in. Marsden on the rampage defending like hell and then driving forward. His effort was rewarded when from a corner a bullet header was goal bound when the defender handballed it.. penalty and a red card. Up stepped Marsden and as cool as you like made it 2-2. Time was still there and with a bit of luck we could have snatched it.

M.O.M - Marsden, that is how you should play at Centre Back. Taking on responsibility and taking calcukated risks. A great penalty to boot.
