Rose and Thistle 1 v 0 Frimley Town 4ths       (Division 3 League Match)

Good start to the home campaign, a very good & deserved win.

The manager had some injury worries to think about this week, together with holidays and thespian activities. Main missing point as Capt Waygood, but then we won so who cares !!

The team, again, much the same formation, but some enforced changes. The team this week Conetti(C), Leach, Lindley, Gray, Goacher, Gadsen, Harris, Bunce, Holman, Marshall, Scales. Subs..Winnard, Sutton, Davison. Not available for this match Waygood (carpet burns), Oakey (still on his shag fest holiday), Milburn( yep, still thespianing..if there is such a word? They still think that means Gay), Marsden (out shopping for a new fashion guru)

1st Half - This was always going to be a tough game, firstly the weather was very hot and secondly from past games we know the opponents are tough to beat. Thistle started off brightly and had a couple of near misses, “Cup Cake “ Conetti also had some saves to make as the first 45 mins were ticking down. For Stu Goacher this was not going to be his first MOM award, an out of salts performance, or more like out of body performance, meant that the manager had to switch Smasher Harris and Goacher around. This caused some confusion to Smasher as, once programmed at the beginning of the match, he is very hard to change. Just think of a wind up toy that ploughs on regardless until the spring winds down, then you can wind it up and turn it in a different direction..that’s Smasher Harris! Saying that he did come very close after some good build up play found Adam at the back post, the shot hit the post and bounced away. Graeme “Buncey” Bunce..how original lads...had a very good half in what was his first game of the season, Davison watching and pleased to see the old Buncey back after a barren season last year. The game was quite extraordinary, we had REAL team spirit going with EVERY one helping each other out. We even had....wait for it....Rik Scales heading a ball, Smasher clapping “Gay” Gray for his efforts, 45 mins worth of effort and a clean sheet. The only downside to the first half was that Dick Holman got his handbag out and chased after some bloke called James. We think he wanted to know why James wasn’t wearing his Girlie headband, but chasing after him shouting “Just wait ‘till I get you you naughty boy” the two were soon separated by the Ref. After the ref ordered the two to just give their numbers to each other and stop playing hard to get they got on with the game..giving each other winks and kisses throughout the rest of the game. First half over, 0-0 .

2nd Half - No Subs at half time, Davison struggling with the heat, and he was only the sub, and another mind blowing team talk, how does he do it? Goacher coming up with the problem of Shin Splints as the reason he couldn’t head for Toffee in the first half, answers on a postcard about that one.

Early in the second half Frimley had us under pressure and forced a number of quick corners but to no avail. Conetti had to make a fantastic save to his right to keep out a fierce shot, still 0-0. Goacher really not being able to continue playing was subbed and in his place came Davison. A quick switch then followed that found Smasher back into his original position and Davison filling in at CB next to Johnny Awesome. Two Johnny’s at the back, make of that what you will ! The came the first break, A massive through ball from Harris found Dick Holman racing through and with aplomb, always wanted to use that word, he fired it into the net. With Capt Waygood watching from the touchline all I can say is..No Shin was involved in that goal. Shocking Gadsen, still reeling from his scientific discovery of turning WHITE into GREY, signaled he had had enough and was substituted. Something to do with a cold, but getting blindly drunk and turning up late doesn’t help either. Bobby Winnard came on to play on the left, another solid game for him. Another fantastic build up saw Dick Holman get another, a superb goal only for it to “ruled” offside. We all know the offside rule is a fluid rule, changing all the time to make the game “more exciting” BUT running 5 yards past the defender after the ball had been kicked is still onside ..isn’t it?  Thankfully it didn’t matter as Thistle grew in confidence and defiance and were not prepared to go down. THIS IS THE NEW TEAM SIPIRT, its taken a long time coming but its definitely there... Thistle held out with Frimley running out of ideas... 1-0 to the Blues...Peachy!

No God like miracles this week...just sheer hard work.

M.O.M - Bunce - he’s back to the Buncey that won him Managers Player of the Year award 04/05 and I’m overjoyed ! Special thanks for Greg who was going to make his debut after I asked him to warm up but it didn’t happen...don’t worry Greg it will do.

Another great effort and I don’t know about you but the team effort and spirit is getting there, again a brilliant attitude in wanting to win and keeping the HUN out... Long may we build on it.
