Frimley Falcons 4 v 2 Rose & Thistle - Division 2

Wake Up It’s A Beautiful Morning.......

If only we did wake up! I think this is the game the Gaffer wanted to get out of the way if only to get over the big fracas of who came second last year, we all know it was us..LOL. The players were “up for it” but during the game it seemed they were focussed elsewhere. Anyway, it was disappointing to see yet another game in Div 2 without a Ref! The first being Yateley Green away and now this one!

Formation set out as 442, dropped this week was Leachy and Milburn for failing to appear training on Thursday night. Whilst on the subject, can I just remind you if I know why you aren’t coming training it helps. The team this week Conetta, Mehta, Gray, Walker, Marsden, Wayggod, Holman, Gadsen, Lindley, Scales, Allery Subs..Harris, Pickett, Milburn, Leach, Marshall. Pat Miller away for this match so a shuffle round AGAIN.

1st Half - We were just too quiet throughout this match, perhaps the idea of playing a team that wanted, from the outset, to come straight us didn’t help, but had that before with Crossley last year and I had hoped we had got over that..alas... Within the first 5 mins, Falcons had several shots at the goal, all of which came a bout by the long ball over the top. One of those shots resulted in an early goal and Thistle 1-0 down. The midfield duo of Waygood and Holman seemed to struggle with stamping their authority and the ball itself seeming quite bouncy. That said it was the same for both teams and they dealt with it better than us. The second goal was a shambles really, with 4 Falcon players offside, the flagged quickly raised as soon as it touched the players foot.. alas not having a proper ref meant that play was allowed to continue and the ball was poked into the net 2-0 Falcons. The best thing about the first half was a wonder goal from Scales towards the end of the half to get us back into the game. In Rik’s own words   “The ball was launched forward and helpfully flicked on by their centre back. I anticipated (John I hope you noticed that!) that he would not clear the ball and was thus lurking behind him...as the ball dropped over my shoulder, i hit it first time, from about 24 yards (just outside the D). It formed a perfect arc as it looped over the keeper, giving him no chance even though he'd only been about 4 yards off his line. Et voila, my 6th goal in 5 games.
I don't mean to brag, but someone did say that it was "an early goal-of-the-season contender".

I agree Rik, a definite Early Goal Of The Season contender. So end of the half Thistle 2-1 down.

2nd Half - A couple of changes at half time. Rik off as more steel was required up front and Paul Mehta replaced by Dan Marshall as he wasn’t having one of his best games.

The second half was played much like the first, Falcons wanting it, Thistle very quiet. We tried to push hard for the equalizer but from a corner a most bizarre goal was scored by Falcons. The ball was driven across from a corner, it found its way to the back post, I think someone cleared it but instead of it going clear it hit a blue player right on the chest and it shot into the net. The most embarrassing moment of the match came as the guy celebrated as if it was meant !! LOL, he was looking the other way when it hit him. However regardless of how comical it was in reality Thistle were now 3-1 down. Allery and Milburn worked their socks off up front, and so it came, a penalty for Thistle. Mind you it was so obvious that their ref had to give it. Up steps Allery, bottom right, perfect..3-2 game on.

Thistle tried very hard to get the third but it wasn’t to be their day. With Harris coming on for Walker, Holman got injured and with all three subs used Thistle had to play with 10 men. Towards the end Falcons added a 4th from a poor clearance.

I don’t think we deserved the 3 points this week, in this Division you can’t give the opposition a two goal head start and expect to get something out of the game. I also hope that we have got this Falcon thing out of our system and we can get back to playing our football again? Only you know that answer.

M.O.M - Allery, worked his socks off even when things weren’t going his way. A great penalty to boot.
