Rose And Thistle 6 v 1 AFC Krooner Celtic (Divison 3 League Match)
Quite rightly this Sunday we observed the “Minutes Silence”, to remember the dead in all of the recent wars, in particular those lads who, at the same age of us, gave up their lives and the right to go out an play football on Saturdays & Sundays so that WE could. I’m very proud that we ALL, as a team, took the minutes silence seriously. Please, never forget those that gave up so much so that YOU could turn out on a Sunday and play the sport you love so much. From me a BIG THANK YOU!
So onto the game, a tough one even though Krooner have only won 2 games all season. This team always seem to bring out the worst in us, BUT as we have shown this season we ARE a different team, a team that wants to do well. Injury to Dave “Massive C***” Marsden meant he was out, Greg was unavailable, Awesome needing a late fitness test after having the stitches out from last weeks incident and Rik “I ain’t getting Dirty For No One” Scales back from illness. So the manager had yet another good headache, so many players more than the 16 so some were to be disappointed, however one persons disappointment means another’s opportunity. I tell you, no word of a lie, we have a fantastic squad this year. Starting line up, changed from last week, I’m determined to emulate my hero Mr Benitez and vow to change the squad very game for the next 10 years !! Conetta, Gray, Oakey, Goacher, Leach, Holman, Waygood, Bunce, Gadsen, Millburn, Miller SUBS: Harris, Trigger, Awesome, Winnard, Marshall, Scales. Not chosen in the squad was Davison, well he’s a Fat, Slow Bastard.
1st Half - after the minutes silence the team took that to mean they shouldn’t play football or talk for at least a minute. Well, that resulted in us going a goal down very early on. Not much communication and sloppy tackling meant a shot from out side the area skimmed off Gadsen’s arse and “Cup Cake” following the ball like a puppy towards the goal. Just to make sure Toni pushed it into the net to ensure his first goal of the season 1-0 Krooner. Silence descended, well actually it hadn’t lifted... Manager Davison was furious and the thought of here we go again crept in. How can we lose to Krooner, again. With Thistle shocked they switched on their engine and revved up. A good break down the right found the ball coming across in the area, scrappy defending allowed the ball to break loose and who should be there??? Nope, you got it wrong, it was Oakey, a deft right foot shoot found the its way past the keeper who was laughing at seeing Oakey in the box shooting. 1-1. More to come as that kicked the Blues in to life. Holman scrapping for every ball in the midfield meant not that much was coming through and if it did Gray was mopping it up. Suddenly a wonderful through ball found Buncey chasing it and ensuring the krooner defence weren’t going to get it. A deft chip left the keeper stranded and a quite superb goal was scored to give Thistle the lead 2-1. Now the lads were hitting top gear, a Krooner equalizer would make Thistle think but just fantastic play on the pitch meant that wasn’t going to happen. The ball, being passed from one to another meant the Blues progressed down the park until a freekick was given. Holman, picked it up and sent over a truly wonderful ball, pinpoint to Waygood, at last, and a cracking volley ended up in the net..what can you say?? 3-1 to Thistle. It didn’t end there as Pat “Windy” Miller fell over for the second successive week when taking the ball to far round the keeper and somehow got a penalty. Now whilst I appreciate the penalty, I must say for the record, we at the club do not Condone that sort of Diving behavior, Jose might do at Chelski but we don’t. Anyway, “Windy” gets the ball places it on the spot and for the second week running Waygood runs towards the ball to take only to be too slow again, “Windy” hammers it into the net, 4-1 Thistle. End of The First Half.
2nd Half - No subs at half time.
Krooner seemed to appreciate the half time break and re organized themselves, Thistle again slow out of the blocks. Both Holman and Gray were having great matches, Holman being moved form the front two in to midfield and Gray from his usual left Back slot in to the centre to replace the “Awesome”. With “Windy” Miller on the score sheet it was getting tough on Carl “Hollywood” Millburn, yet to open his account. However we needn’t have worried, again a great through ball found “Hollywood” runnign on the ball leaving the defenc in his wake, a bullet of a shot was dispatched towards goal with the manager wondering just when will he score... don’t worry it thundered into the net...Blimey, what a shot ! 5-1 Thislte. Krooner still not willing to give up the ghost pushed and pushed but the back 4 were holding steady, Goacher being the voice of reason and abuse. Waygood nearly added his second in our net after putting just wide but the Blues were in defiant mood. The final goal came from Waygood and as usual it was a shinner, well one had to be. 6-1 Thistle. During the second half Toni made some great saves, one in particular the little lad tip up onto the cross bar and from his angle it might have spun back into play, thank god it didn’t as he was flat out on his arse and no chance of saving it if it did. Subs in the second half, Gadsen came off to be replaced by Daniel “Chase it son” Marshall and Buncey coming off with Rik Scales coming on. Rik went up front with Patrick going over to the right. I want to say that the time Rik had on the pitch it shows he’s learning from training and started putting it into practice ..well done mate ..good stuff.
Final whistle came and a cracking result, I also want to say how well the ref played, 10/10. Three more points, a good team performance.
Oh just to say that Bobby did take one for the club by declaring himself unfit before the team sheet went in, not sure where he “took it” for the club and some things are best left unsaid. On that point please can I just say that if you turn up late please do not expect to play, we have a good squad and I’ll have no problems in dropping/ promoting players on the day. But hey, a brilliant result - well done lads you deserve it, onwards and upwards !!
M.O.M - Again really tough and after consulting Awesome, It has to go to 2 people again...sorry but you guys are playing some good football, its hard to choose one player sometimes. Holman & Gray get the award this week. Top Notch Lads !!
