Rose & Thistle FC 0 v 1 FC Mychett          (Division 3 League Match)

Erh...well..ummm...yes..erh....in the words of my 5 year old son...Bummocks !

The manager Davison had thinking to do before this game, Gray out for the game, Gadson umming and arhing about not being able to play, distinct lack of goals, how long would it take to shed 2 stone can it be done before Sunday?

The team, again, had some enforced changes. The team this week Conetti, Leach, Lindley, Oakey, Goacher, Gadsen, Harris, Bunce, Holman, Marsden, Waygood. Subs..Winnard, Sutton, Davison, Scales, Marshall. Not available for this match Grey (out shagging sheep), Milburn( yep, still dancing his way to the top)

Before the match the scene was set , FC Mychett lost both games, conceeded 10 scored 2, Thistle won 1 drawn 1 scored 3 conceeded 2. Pools panel result home win....actual result arh...slightly different to that.

1st Half - As soon as the game kicked off FC Mychett were determined to show that they wanted the game more than us. And to be fair this was true. Being out in the sun waiting for KO wilted some of the lads strength and we started as though we were tied into the blocks. The game saw Big Dave up front and Oakey back in as left back following his two week shag fest. From what I can remember we had a couple of chances where their back 4 were flat but to be totally honest we were just not up to the task and very blunt up front. This could be down to the managers tactics of having a lone striker? The back 4 were not playing their best, Captain Waygood was very quiet, Dick Holman slowly getting frustrated, and Harris battling hard in the centre. The bright spots of the first half were Carl and Graeme on the wings who battled hard for the first 45 mins. Half Time approached with the manager already deciding on the changes for the second half. 0-0

2nd Half - Subs at half time didn’t turn out as expected with Oakey wanting to come off as he hadn’t had a shag for 45 mins and was missing it. Goacher not showing the form had in pre season was also being replaced by Scales. A quick shuffle found Jon Lindley staying on the pitch with Big Dave going from Striker to CB, and Bobby( supersub) Winnard coming on in the left back position. Manager Davison held off from coming on just in case of further injuries.

Second half started, Captain Waygood still very quiet, Scales up front trying to prove the manager wrong by dropping him. From my point of view this game had 0-0 written all over it and whilst thinking another clean sheet was good news Big Dave didn’t clear the lines and kept the ball trying to play it out. He was dispossessed and the number 9 calmly advanced on Toni and drove the ball into the top corner..1-0 to Mychett.

Thistle smarting from that goal had to try and come back, they picked up a gear, into 1st , and set about getting the goal back. A great chance came our way when a freekick was awarded outside the box. Waygood stepped up and curled a nice ball towards the top left of the goal, the goal keeper made a fantastic save..top draw stuff..and tipped it over the bar. He was in the mood to keep us out and his performance became infectious amongst Mychett. The next golden chance after one of the Mychett guys punched the ball off the line, if only we had the choice of taking the goal rather than a penalty !!!! The offender sent off, Mychett down to 10 men...Thistle with a penalty...A goal to bring us back into the game and crush Mychett’s defiance...Scales keen as mustard...steps up....and , and , and....MY GOD HE MISSED! The keeper making a save, again his performance just galvanized Mychett as they could smell a victory. For us, despair ! With Mychett down to 10 men the formation was changed to 442, Harris came off with Davison coming on, Bunce went into the centre, Lindley over to the right and Holman up front. Still Thistle pushed but Mychett weren’t having any of it, they WANTED their first win of the season. Towards the end a great ball over found Holman with a clear header at goal only to glance it wide.. After that a lot of huff and puff but not much else. A 1-0 defeat. We didn’t expect to go through the season unbeaten but its always disappointing to lose, and more worrying for the manager is the distinct lack of goals, he has some thinking to do on that one !

Not as much hard work as seen in previous weeks which is a shame and everybody is of course disappointed.

M.O.M - Gadsen - He had a very good game and never gave up.

Not the best game I’ve seen and we ALL must want to work as a team regardless how frustrated or annoyed we feel. We WILL succeed if we build upon the great start we had and the team spirit we showed, but its hard work week in week out... I hope you all can see that..

Back to training on Thursday with a smile on our faces ready for the next match !! TTFN.

Oh and if you have any questions about why you weren’t picked, the team isn’t right etc, etc then PLEASE talk to the manager. He won’t bite but at the same time he won’t just agree with you either. Its good to talk..in both directions ! Cheers All.
