Rose & Thistle 7 v 2 Royal Standard (Friendly)
Game 2 for this Sunday found the midfield back for this game. One assumes they were too busy preparing with each other to make the morning match? As over heard from Miller & Awesome mid morning... “One must prepare oneself for every match and eventuality and this takes time does it not Jonny?” “Yes Patrick, one must visualize the game, its ups and downs, the ducking and diving past the smelly bodies in order to achieve the peak of performance... failing that I just can’t be arsed to turn up!” “Quite right Jonny, lets go for a beer and catch up with Waygood and Milburn.”
Formation set out as 442 but with the midfielders in place. Buncey out for this game along with Allery, kick in the face but no free kick from the ref in the last game, harris working and Winnard, blisters from the last game. The team this week Conetta, Mehta, Leach, Marsden, Gray, Lindley, Miller, Waygood, Holman, Milburn, Scales Subs..Davison, Pickett.
1st Half - With some weary legs and some fresh legs we again started off confident. A good result earlier in the day put us in good stead. Waygood got off to a good start after missing the mornings match, with a typical perfect through ball for Scales who, unlike last week missed a hat trick of opens goals, clinically prodded it past the advancing keeper. 1-0 Thistle, more to come? Scales keen to show people he can score mugged the Standard right back, he wanted to shoot but decided to lay it off instead as he heard Carls polite request to “Pass that f**king ball”, Milburn placed it into the top corner, 2-0. More to come from Milburn as he drove a ball across the goal only for their number 7 to knock it into the net, an OG with lots of people claiming it, 3-0. Thistle were not playing their best that’s for sure but still too powerful for the opposition. Waygood had to come off after a nasty late tackle caused severe bruising on the right leg , a reshuffle found the CM’s being the Holman/Marsden combination, Pickett in goal, Toni left back and Gray to CB.
Thistle fought on determined to get more goals and more they did, the Milburn/Scales combination manufactured the fourth goal, Milburns low cross and scales driving it home high into the net...4-0 Thistle.
2nd Half - No changes, just more of the same required.
It was soon to be 5-0 when a long throw from Scales found Dave who was fouled, penalty! Up stepped Miller, he thundered the ball past the keeper. Up the other end Leachy was up to his Hand of God tricks again, falling onto the ball scooping it up into his arms and telling everyone he was taking it home. The ref had no choice but to point to the spot, Leachy was outraged... not by the fact he was seen holding the ball but that the Ref took it off him! It must be said a well taken penalty was brilliantly saved by Greg, diving to his right to palm it away! Top stuff Lemmy! Leachy came off to be replaced by Davison. Standard soon pulled a goal back as a deep corner came over to be met with the strikers head, 5-1. Thsitle though got another goal back thanks to good footwork from Awesome, he slid home from 1 yard.....maybe offside.....again?? 6-1. Not wanting to stop Standard came back again after a pass back from davison was a bit too high for Pickett and the number 13 bundled it over the line, 6-2. No to be outdone, Scales claimed a hat trick with a Header! Yep the defenders showed Rik during training how they clear the ball off the line, Rik followed their advice and lo and behold he headed it home, 7-2 to Thistle, final score.
A lot of tired legs but happy people. Two good games, two good results and the team confidence ever improving. The lads are beginning to gel and we are becoming a fine team that wants to battle. Just to ensure he’s happy.. Phil G had a good game.
M.O.M - Rikky Rocket for his well deserved hat trick. Also a great performance by Toni after coming out of goal to play 80 mins at left back..well done. Hope the leg is better soon Waygood!
NOTE: I tell you playing two games in one day is blimming hard work! I have to write twice as much crap in one day..some might say it comes naturally.. for those that do..you’re dropped!
