Rose & Thistle 1 v Sovereign Poker 2 - Division 2
A home game... Do my eyes deceive me?
Line up - Connetta, Walker, Harris, Lindley, Gray, Marshall, Bunce, Holman, Gadsen, Scales, Miller
Thistle got off to a poor start with some lackluster passing and general play. Sovereign not doing to much better in a scrappy opening. The First half passed along with not to much action until Connetta made a few great saves to keep the score at 0-0. The first goal came near half time, a long ball over the top by Sovereign down the left hand side was met with appeals for offside by the Thistle back line, but amazingly the flag stayed down as the Sovereign midfielder ran through and lobbed the ball over Connetta. This sparked Thistle into life, but only slightly as few chances came before half time, Miller and Scales not really getting into the game. Thistle were limited to some speculative shots from around the box with Miller bringing a good save out of the Sovereign Keeper, the only one he had to make in the entire half.
Half Time was met with frustration by Thistle and Davison had some tough decisions to make. The first of which, much to the disgust of Scales was to swap the number nine with Allery.
The 2nd half started with Thistle looking to step up the pace and pass the ball. A bit more action was happening as Thistle had more attempts on goal; however against the run of play, Sovereign doubled their lead. A long ball over the Thistle back line was chased and as Lindley attempted to intercept, the ref somehow missed a blatant obstruction by the Sovereign forward, allowing the Sovereign midfielder to again run through and finish well giving Connetta no chance. Thistle started to up the ante again, with Waygood and Leach replacing the hard working Harris and Marshall. Waygoods introduction meant a real goal threat from the middle of the park. Allery laid a nice square ball as Waygood's side foot was well saved. Another Waygood shot was saved onto the post after a one to with Miller. Gadsen playing well down the left started attacking the full back stretching the Sovereign defence and also the sight of Lindley making some forward runs from centre back gave Thistle some much needed urgency. Thistle were rewarded when after a move involving Miller and Lindley, Bunce squared a ball for Allery to smash home from 10 yards with his right foot. The game was marred slightly as Holman, aka Mr Glass, was knocked senseless in a head collision and was taken to Hospital. In the last 10 mins with no subs left the 10 men of Thistle tried hard but no chances came about. A poor result against a weak side.
MOM - Connetta - Made some good saves throughout, had no chance with either goal.
