Spelthorne Sports Reserves 2 v 2 Rose & Thistle - Division 2
Where is everybody????
the start to the season has been somewhat different. Injuries, players signed on but not able to make the commitment and then there are those weeks where everybody and his dog goes away... this was one of those weeks!
Formation set out as 451 considering the people we were missing and the fact that it was a big ‘ol pitch. YET AGAIN no ref three games on the bounce now!
1st Half - We did this last year against Falcons, a scratch team and from the off full of fighting. With the midfield packed out with Holman, Lindley & Marshall Spelthorne were struggling to break, but when they did they were offside sooooo many times that Davison’s arm was about to fall off after 10 mins. However with Milburn supporting the lonley Allery, who was only 50% fit anyway, we soon found our first goal. A melly of shots finally found mehta at the post doing up his laces, he looked up after a shout and it thundered off his head into the net 1-0 Thistle, but a hint of offside?? Lots of movement now from Spelthorne, but with the back 4 holding out and using the line offsides came thick and fast.
2nd Half - No changes at half time, well there was only a 50% fit Winnard and a 20% fit Davison.
Thistle buoyed by the goal came out of the blocks the quickest and Milburn found room following a lovely ball from Allery, 2-0. From then on it looked steady, that was until A long ball through the middle found Pickett coming off his line but then stopping, the Spelthorne striker neatly lobbed the ball over his head 2-1. The fight was on and Thislte looked very tired. Spelthorne put on three subs, we replaced Milburn who hurt his foot with Bobby. Their second goal came following a corner and at 2-2 Thislte were on the ropes. Slowly they pulled them selves off the ropes and towards the end a lovley cross found winnard in the 6 yard box to skim a free header past the post. Final score 2-2
Given the amount of people were missing I would have settled for a 2-2 draw at the beginning of the game, but with our normal team we would have def got 3 points.
