Yateley Green Reserves 0 v 2 Rose & Thistle - Division 2

First game of the new season found the weather hot, the pitch big and more than 16 players. Already a tough call for the gaffer as I know how much people want to play. But it will be a good SQUAD that gets us through so bear that in mind. The only downer to the start of the day was that a ref didn’t turn up and so JD had to ref. Lots of photos to see, thanks to Natasha for taking them

Formation set out as 442, including a start for Scales after his strong display during the friendlies. The team this week Conetta, Leach, Gray, Lindley, Marsden, Wayggod, Holman, Milburn, Miller, Scales, Allery Subs..Davison, Winnard, Gadsen, Harris, Mehta. Dan Marshall not in the 16 but still stayed and watched, well done!

1st Half - With the day being hot and a big pitch it was going to be tough. We know that in this division there’s no easy games but the lads settled in early with Awesome and Marsden providing a solid wall in the centre. The opposition were a young team and had played as a team for many years, and it showed. But this season the hunger and confidence is greater than I have ever seen and that comes through in the play. Holman and Waygood battling hard in the centre despite the ball frequently going over the top of them. Thistle always looking dangerous had some good chances, Marsden finding his way through to fire over the bar, Scales and Allery also driving in some shots but still 0-0. The break through came from Milburn, a poor back pass found Milburn running through, the gamble paying off. The keeper forced Milburn out wide to the left but a smart pass across the goal found Rik Scales to drill home the ball, 1-0 and Rik off the mark. The back four had a tidy game with Marsden playing a blinder, doing the things the manager wanted him to do. Still, Yateley kept pushing forward looking for the equalizer when Thistle scored the second. A nice through ball from Scales found Miller, he beat the keeper to the ball and slotted it home into the empty net 2-0. There seemed to be frustration creeping into the game, Milburn lucky not to be sent off for retalition and Yateley Green feeling very hard done by.

2nd Half - No changes, just more of the same required.

The second half was played much like the first, Yateley making Thistle run, Waygood & Holman trying hard to play from the centre. A big shout for a penalty by Allery came to nothing but still the ref had lots of talking to do. Man their 6 just wouldn’t shut up..even after the ref told him to SHUT UP! Still, the game went on, Rik was subbed, on came Gadsen at left Mid, Milburn up front. Gadsen soon got into hot water after some guy said his tan was a poor fake, Gadsen went for him and again was lucky not to walk, in fact both were lucky. Milburn soon came off and on came Paul, only sub this week as the blisters from last week hadn’t healed. Paul came close with a nice run through but the shot straight at the keeper. Gray & Leachy doing sterling work at the back helped keep a clean sheet. Even Toni was in fine voice, he didn’t have that much to do what when required made the saves. Towards the end of the match Allery tried the crossbar challenge, from inside his own half he drove the ball high up over the keeper only to see it bounce up onto the crossbar and into the keepers hands.

A lot of tired legs but happy people. Three valuable points, a clean sheet and rik off the mark.... what else could you ask for?

M.O.M - Marsden, did exactly what the gaffer wanted and played a big part in keeping a clean sheet. Tower of strength.

NOTE:  Goal incidents supplied by Pat “ Sort out the golf day” Miller!
